Every year the guild has a booth on the main street at the Alliston Potato Festival. Guild embers volunteer for various shifts throughout the day to demonstrate spinning and weaving. It is a time for us to connect with the community and to showcase our craft. We show samples of raw wool, carding tools, wheels and finished products, both knit and woven. Families stop by to “ooh and aah” at the fibre, try to figure out how the wheels work and to tell us family stories about their grandmother who had a wheel. This event is a time for us to recruit new members and to give helpful advice to people who may have a loom or wheel and don’t know how to use them.
