The Nottawasaga Handweavers & Spinners learned about gamps at our February meeting from accomplished weaver and guild member, Cathy Richards. In March, Cathy facilitated a round-robin gamp workshop on pre-warped looms. Members learned how to avoid errors, incorporate intentional weaving into a pleasing design, find the right tension, keep the shafts in neutral when advancing the warp, techniques to maintaining good selvedges, and, above all, to label clearly. Cathy instructed us on how to complete a soft-finish of our samples ensuring that the weave structure shows clearly so that the samples form a reference guide to plan future projects.
