What is a gamp? Why weave one? How is a gamp useful?

A properly labelled gamp is like a book; it is a design tool that can give a lot of information. The grid arrangement allows you to see how colours, weave structures, setts, etc. interact and, as a bonus, you can end up with a beautiful cloth!
