News - Doors Open Ontario

It was a perfect fall day for the Ontario Heritage Trust's province wide Doors Open Event and the light rain stopped just before it opened! Four of our members volunteered to be part of the Museum on the Boyne display to demonstrate Spinning and Weaving to the visitors and there was a steady stream of families all day. Many were local but some had come from Toronto just to learn about the history of the area.

The museum had many displays and activities organized, including a scavenger hunt for the children that included us as one of the things they had to find so we made sure they learned something before getting their stamp.

We had many of our visitors large and small spinning on a drop spindle and we had made mini looms out of cardboard and sent many home with "kits" to practice weaving. We also had the guild Dorothy loom with us and many tried their hand at weaving on that as well.

We met some wonderful people and invited those who indicated an interest in learning more to join us at one of our meetings or to come visit us again at Seasonal Wrapsody
